Meeting Profiles: Friday Night Beginners’

The CMA Friday Beginners’ Meeting at 7:00 pm at the Center on Halsted Youth Center (2nd Floor), is Chicago’s oldest meeting, and is typically its largest.

Aimed at newcomers to the CMA program, it is an open meeting, which means attendees are not required to identify as addicts. This makes space for people who think they might have a problem with meth, but may not be ready to identify as addicts, to check out the meeting. Each week, invited speakers share their experience, strength, and hope for 20-25 minutes.

Following a break, members are invited to share on the topics brought up during the speaker’s lead, with some sharing time reserved for those addicts with fewer than 90 days of continuous recovery. The meeting concludes with the presentation of chips and announcements.

The Friday Beginners’ Meeting is also a medallion meeting, where addicts celebrating yearly recovery anniversaries are celebrated and presented with a commemorative medallion. Many attendees also fellowship afterwards at one of the neighborhood’s nearby restaurants for the “meeting after the meeting.” All are welcome at the CMA Chicago Beginners Meeting, Friday at 7:00 pm at the Center on Halsted, 3656 N. Halsted St. in Chicago.

This Meeting Profiles series highlights the nearly two dozen CMA Chicago meetings recognized by Intergroup, the organization which supports Crystal Meth Anonymous meetings throughout Illinois.
