Located in Jackson Park, in the Hyde Park neighborhood between Lake Michigan and The University of Chicago, the Museum of Science & Industry is housed in the Palace of Fine Arts from the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition. The exterior is famed for its Graeco-Roman design and sculpted caryatids - giant stone goddesses; the interior is an art deco masterpiece remodeled for the museum opening during the Century of Progress 1933 Worlds Fair.

Among the most famous exhibits are tours of a full-size replica coal mine, German submarine U-505 captured during World War II (it was towed through Lake Michigan and dragged across Dusable Lake Shore Drive); a 3,500-square-foot model railroad; the command module of Apollo 8; and the first diesel-powered streamlined stainless-steel passenger train, the Pioneer Zephyr.

CMA Museum Day is planned by the CMA Chicago Activities Committee, as part of its mission to provide fellowship events for recovering addicts. Fellowship is one of the four key components in individual 12-step recovery, along with sponsorship, meetings, and service. So far this year the Activities Committee has organized two other events: the free pizza and pool party; and a movie outing for the premiere of “Dune: Part 2.”
